Variants matter more than the marketing name

"Blackjack" can mean Atlantic City, European, Vegas Strip, Spanish 21 or Switch, RTPs differ by 0.3–1.5 percentage points across variants. Always check the rules.

Roulette: French > European > American

French roulette has La Partage / En Prison rules, dropping the house edge on even bets to 1.35%. European is 2.7%. American is 5.26%. The "extra zero" matters.

Baccarat is the lowest-house-edge banked game

Banker bet: 1.06% house edge. Player bet: 1.24%. Tie bet: ~14%, never play it.

Poker variants have wildly different math

Caribbean Stud, Three Card, Casino Hold'em, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, house edges range from 0.5% (with optimal play) to 5%+ (with poor strategy).

Evaluating a table games casino

Look for: French roulette (most operators only stock European), single-deck blackjack with standard rules (3:2 blackjack pay, dealer stands on soft 17), proper baccarat with side bet RTP disclosure, and game info panels that show RTP. Avoid: 6:5 blackjack (the worst hidden rule change), American roulette as default, and any casino that hides the rule set behind "see help".

Why is blackjack RTP higher than slots?

Blackjack involves player decisions. Optimal play (basic strategy, no insurance) lowers the house edge to under 1%. Slots are pure-chance with the math fixed at 3–10% house edge.

Is card counting allowed online?

In RNG blackjack the deck shuffles after every hand, so counting is impossible. In live blackjack the shoe persists, but operators monitor for counting patterns and may restrict play.

What is "6:5 blackjack" and why avoid it?

Standard blackjack pays 3:2 (€15 on a €10 bet). Some tables pay 6:5 (€12 on a €10 bet) for blackjack. This raises the house edge from 0.5% to about 1.9%, same game, four times the cost.

Are side bets worth it?

Almost never. Most side bets (Perfect Pairs, 21+3, Lucky Ladies) carry house edges of 4–8%, far worse than the main game. They exist to extract margin from players who do not check the math.
